The generations of millennials have grown up using electronics devices. Within these devices, they all contain a world that may be bigger than what meets the eye, Social Media. Social Media is a platform for many apps and websites, which allows you to create and share content. It also lets you contact anyone instantly. Over 2 billion people around the world use social media.
On a daily basis, People use these sights to stay in contact with old friends and relatives. But, Over the years this platform has definitely expanded positively. Marketers and businesses of any size use social media to expand their marketing plan to consumers. This platform makes it easier to connect with and contact a brands current audience no matter where they may be. Social Media has now become so mainstream, that it offers analytics of your following. Letting businesses know who of what age, race, city, and sex are tuning in to their current marketing strategy.
Although so much good can come out of social media, it is still believed that it is very intrusive. Have you ever typed something in on google, to a friend, or even said something out loud, then a couple of minutes later ads pop up for that same thing? It can be scary to know how connected we really are to the web.
Also being in this online world, you should know that it's very important to handle social media with much responsibly. Things that are posted will never go away, whether it was deleted or not. The online world moves at such a face past that things can be shared or reposted within 10 secs of the initial post.
Even today, the movement #BlackLivesMatter, that has streamed through the internet for the past couple years has been showing police brutality. We, as an online community got to witness the harsh reality of cops taking advantage of their position. We see live videos of people like Eric Garner actually being put in a chokehold by police, which resulted in death.
Social media has played a very concerning role in this event by just simply raising awareness Though this may be seen as a negative event, the outcome of for social media has seemed to be very positive. It has made people alarmed to pull out their phones and record in events like this. It has definitely made cops more aware of their actions as well. The #BlackLivesMatter movement has also brought out activist and other people to speak out, protest and bring change to something happening all across the country.
In all, It is still believed that Social Media will go down a productive path. Now that we see all the pros and cons that social media has, we can act more responsibly. There should be more activists speaking out, comedians producing content, brands creating strong marketing plans, and much more. In the future, there will be no limit of how far you can take social media to become successful!
